Case Description
very large filling broke out today. Tooth does not seem sensitive. Was told a few times over the last 8 years that they were suprised how long this large filling lasted. I think they used a band and 2 posts on this filling. Delta prefferred does not seem to cover this expense for me as I have only had the ins 3 months. Any guesses on a economical cash basis option? I dont think we have instant msg. email is sdhorner@truevine.net

Are You This Patient?
When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

The typical range for a Crown in Denver 900-1400, you should try and do something soon because the tooth could start hurting at any time... There is also the possibilty that the tooth could require more than just a crown.

There are really a LOT of things you need to know about this tooth and situation. It''''s great that it''''s not really hurting right now-sounds like you probably had a root canal. The bigger question is what will happen to this tooth over the next 10, 20, 30... years? If you repair it well now, it can last a LONG time. A break like this will need a crown to properly fix and seal it. Occasionally, a 2nd molar like this can be removed without serious compromise. No way to know without checking it.Many offices including mine will take a photo of your tooth and SHOW you what is happening and WHY those others have been concerned about it for the last 8 years. You probably can avoid something like this again in the future.MANY financial options exist. Really hard to say until it''''s checked.Best Wishes!SG

Those very large fillings rarely break out because of age. While the tooth may not hurt now, be careful how long you wait. Usually there is a layer of decay that has separated the filling from the tooth. If not treated soon, this may double the cost by involving a root canal as well as a crown. While your insurance may have a waiting period, this is likely not a tooth that can wait. Many offices will offer a cash discount, usually ranging from 5-10%. If you have the tooth restored with any type of crown, perhaps taking advantage of a low cost option to wait for insurance, Delta can refuse to cover any new crown for a period of five years. So, be careful. This may be a time to have proper lasting dentistry done and use your benefits for other work that may have been postponed.

Dear patient,Economical and best option are not always the same thing. With that said, a temporary filling could hold up assuming there is still some tooth left. A buildup would possibly be the best assuming you are preparing for a crown in the future. Hope this helped.Sincerely, Dr. Luis J. Bravo

I think a few more questions would need to be answered. Where is the tooth located? Did it have root canal treatment? Does it have decay? Will it need a root canal? Are the gums / supporting structures healthy? What type of crown does it need? There are many types of crowns? (For example- an inexpensive 3/4 base metal crown can be made from a lab in China, as opposed to a customized perfectly esthetic crown made in the office lab) All crowns are not equal. A quality dentist should complete a complete examination and then provide you with a firm price estimate. I hope this helps.
