When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
  • Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
  • Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description, special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
  • Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
  • Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors. Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Here''''s some general information about broken teeth. If it''''s severely broken with lots of pain, then drop everything and take ANY open time for some emergency treatment. If it''''s hurting a lot, it probably will need a root canal too. Some teeth are critical to preserve, so you might have to do a few steps to save it. Have your general dentist start the process. If it is less painful, more like some sort of chipping, then you will still want to get an appointment quickly. Sometimes a more conservative treatment can be done to repair your tooth before other bad things happen to it. Just because it doesn''''t hurt a lot, doesn''''t mean it''''s ok-check it now. After this tooth crisis has calmed down you will want to have ALL your teeth checked to develop a plan to keep this from happening to other teeth as well. A thorough examination can predict what problems you are prone to, and where they are likely to happen. Then you can prioritize your plan to fit your budget.

A broken molar can be repaired with everything from a small filing to a crown. The first step is to alleviate pain if necessary, take an Xray then determined the best way to fix the tooth.

Let us know if we can help.

Hi!

Thanks for submitting this case. As you can see from some of the other posts, there are lots of variables at work here. In order to accurately provide a cost estimate or diagnosis, I''''d like to evaluate the X-ray with you to show you where the concerns are (and what things you DON''''T have to be concerned with, too) and then I''''d like to do some testing on that particular tooth, see if the nerve has been involved, see where the crack is, see if it''''s sensitive to cold or hot or pressure or biting or tapping, etc and to see what the condition is of the rest of the tooth that''''s still intact. Once we have all of the information, we could talk about all of the different options for your tooth. Maybe you don''''t want to save it at all, or maybe we can save it with just a filling, or maybe it would indeed require a crown or root canal/crown combo, maybe a buildup...the list goes on and on. There are even many teeth that we see in our office that have small chips out of them that we recommend not fixing at all. Financially, the choice is yours. I''''d love to evaluate this some more with you and come to an idea of what your goals are, and then do our best to meet those goals. Sometimes the most expensive treatment isn''''t necessarily the best treatment. You can email me at drcraig@summerbrookdental.com or you can call our office (we''''re closed today, but open Tues & Wed) at 303-693-1215. You can also reach me on my cell at 720-277-5446 if you want to talk more! Thanks! -Jim
